1. History of JRDM

Joypurhat Rural Development Movement (JRDM) focuses mainly the comprehensive development of the geographical area of Joypurhat district. It emphasizes on the activities which contribute to alleviate  poverty in the shape of non-profit and non-government approach keeping the aim of developing the rural area of the district on top.

JRDM was born in the shape of a Youth Club in 1985. The main objective of the club was to help the disaster affected people of the area. In the year 1995 there was a severe flood which affected the total area of Joypurhat district to a great extent. As a result a great number of people lost their lives. Thousands of houses, livestock, crops and other properties were destroyed. The disaster was so severe that the club needed external help and support to face the situation. They sought the help and cooperation of the local people and started relief and rehabilitation program in a planned manner. Later on the Youth Club turned into a non-profit organization and got its new name “Joypurhat Rural Development Movement”. Short Name JRDM So, historically JRDM is an organization “created by the people, managed by the people and worked for the people”.

2. General Body

A general body consisting twenty five (25) members. They are chosen from the members of the public having high level of acceptability and reputation for their integrity and competence. The general body elects an executive committee consists of seven (07) members who appoint the Executive Director. The executive Director is the member secretary of the Executive Committee. There is an Advisory Committee consists of three (03) honorable persons who always advise the executive committee on important matters and help to solve various problems of the organization. The Executive Director is the administrative head of the organization.
